A Day in Northampton
From the Faerie Deck
My card was drawn:
Inner Child
Lovely Collegians exclaim,
"Cute puppy!"
Though I am ten.
Later, on my walk
I roll in racoon doo.
A serious bath experience follows.

Portent of the Aquarian Age
The Water Carrier exclaims,
"I've never seen anything so cute in my life!"
As he bears a large bottle
From his truck to our building.
For there I am, a.k.a. Jessie
In my hooded yellow raincoat,
With my human companion
Dressed alike in larger version.
We go forward to greet him,
Sharing this moment of delight.
Around us raindrops are falling,
Sprinkled from heaven's jar.

Sparkling Eyes
[For Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers]
On my walk today
A charming lady friend
Bent down low and said,
"Give me a kiss."
I thought of another time,
And someone so darling
That people used to ask,
"Why won't Fred kiss Ginger?"
In my circumstances
I cannot give a real kiss,
So I send my love
Through sparkling eyes.

Loving Arms
[For the 60,000 unwanted pets euthanized each day and countless others left
on the streets,
Earthlings (2003) documentary,
section on animals bred as pets]
I was a puppy, a kitten, a tiny bunny...
One of thousands brought into your world each day.
I looked forward to your loving arms,
I wanted to give my love in return.
Now I am among the thousands each day,
Hoping for the merciful injection rather than another method,
Asking only that the kind shelter worker
Hold me in loving arms as I go.

Notes by transcriber: The "Faerie Deck" is Healing with the
Fairies Oracle Cards by Doreen Virtue; the Collegians refers to students
at Smith College; the Water Carrier is the Poland Springs deliveryman in
Northampton, MA; the Astaire-Rogers reference is to their early films of
the 1930's; the powerful Earthlings Documentary, about 1 and 1/2 hours in
length, is available for viewing in its entirety or purchase on the Internet.
It is highly recommended.
